How to Use Mobile Recruitment to Attract Candidates.

How to use mobile recruitment to attract candidates

As the name would suggest, mobile recruitment involves recruiting via mobile technology, including smartphones and tablets.

Smartphone usage continues to grow, with 6378 (million) people using smartphones worldwide, compared to 3668 (million) in 2016. In five short years, it has almost doubled, and that trend is set to continue.

You can use mobile recruitment to source candidates, as well as for attraction and engagement. Mobile recruitment is a must, and if you are not utilising it, it is time to do so. These are some ways you can improve your recruitment efforts via mobile recruitment.

Applicant Tracking System

For recruiters, an ATS is the backbone of their operations, your candidate information is contained here, and your day-to-day activities. With mobile recruiting, you would be able to carry out the same functions on your ATS, but with the convenience of doing it on a mobile device. For instance, after a candidate interview, you would be able to quickly update the outcome or check for new applications. It makes the whole process much quicker as most recruiters are in and out of meetings throughout the day, and it keeps the cogs turning. In doing so, it improves engagement, the company brand, and consequently, the number of candidates and applications you will attract.

Text Messaging

We live in a world where we are inundated with cold calls, and most of us have the attitude that if we don’t recognise the number, we just won’t answer. Have you ever Googled a number rather than answering it? You’re not alone! Text messaging or sending messages via WhatsApp is often not considered by recruiters, and you could be missing a trick with this. Many candidates will fail to pick up your call if they don’t recognise the number, and many really don’t like to speak on the phone. Text or WhatsApp messages can enable you to connect with your candidates and engage with them without lifting the phone. They are far more likely to want to speak to you on the phone, if they have connected with you via another format. If you can’t reach a candidate via phone, you should always follow up with a text message.

Social Media

Internet users spend an average of 145 minutes on social media each day – that’s over 2 hours of their day! If you are not currently using social media to attract or engage with candidates, you are really missing a trick. It is simple to use social media as part of your engagement process by putting out a post on social media when you have a new vacancy, and make sure to link up with and engage with your candidates on social media. Simple actions such as wishing them a happy birthday on LinkedIn or ‘liking’ their posts can improve engagement and keep you at the forefront of their minds. Join groups where your target market is likely to appear and engage in discussions. Social media is where people hang out these days so make sure you utilise it based on your demographic. For instance, if you are trying to attract Gen Z, TikTok and Instagram are the places to occupy. If you are looking for professionals with lots of experience, make sure you are active on LinkedIn. Posting on social media is imperative to improve attraction and engagement with candidates.

Website Optimisation

Simply making sure your website is optimised for mobile platforms is a good way to improve your recruitment efforts. If candidates are browsing your website and it is unreadable on their mobile device, they will leave as quickly as they arrived. Make sure your website works well on all formats, including smartphones, tablets, etc. Candidates should have a seamless experience from the moment they land on your website to the completion of their application. If you are using job sites, make sure these are also optimised for mobiles. Candidates want to have an enjoyable experience throughout the recruitment process, make the process as simple as possible for them.
